Chanel is a famous fashion and luxury clothing brand founded in 1909 by French designer Coco Chanel. Known for its luxurious clothing, accessories, and perfumes, Chanel has been a style icon for over a century.

Coco Chanel revolutionized fashion in the 1920s by introducing sporty clothing made from jersey fabric. She opened her first hat shop in 1910 and expanded it into a boutique in Deauville in 1912.

Chanel’s influence grew with the Chanel Couture House in Biarritz (1915) and the creation of the iconic Chanel No. 5 perfume in 1921. Although facing challenges during World War II, Coco Chanel reopened her Couture House in 1954 and introduced the famous tweed suit in 1956.

Karl Lagerfeld took over Chanel in 1983 and maintained its global reputation. Today, according to Forbes, Chanel ranks as the third most famous luxury brand.

Chanel’s innovations extended to wool for clothing in the 1920s. Tweed, a type of wool fabric, became a crucial ingredient in Chanel’s collections under Lagerfeld, appearing in casual wear, blazers, trousers, and miniskirts season after season. Famous figures such as Romy Schneider, Jackie Kennedy, Princess Diana, and Anna Wintour have worn tweed.
